Wingra Wind Quintet is coming to Wisconsin Rapids on Thursday, January 22, for a 7:30 p.m. concert at the Performing Arts Center of Wisconsin Rapids, 1801 16th Street South.
Founded in 1965, the Wingra Wind Quintet at the University of Wisconsin-Madison Mead Witter School of Music is one of the longest running quintets in the nation. Known for artistic and pedagogical excellence, the ensemble has been featured in performances at national conferences. Deeply committed to the spirit of Wisconsin Idea, the group travels widely to offer its concerts and educational services to students and the public in all corners of the state.
In addition to its extensive home state touring, the quintet has been invited to perform at numerous college campuses, including the universities of Alaska-Fairbanks; Chicago, Illinois; Nebraska; as well as Northwestern Western Michigan; Florida State; Cornell; the Interlochen Arts Academy; and the Paris Conservatoire, where quintet members offered master classes.
A free master class is being held for students at 3:00 p.m. at the Performing Arts Center on January 22. The quintet will perform a few pieces and use them to explore a range of rehearsal and benefit techniques applicable to students on all instruments. Sometimes referred to as “informances,” these workshops offer a good overview of what to expect. There will be time for Q&A as well. Call the Arts Council of South Wood County for details about participating. All transportation costs for attendees will be covered.
Tickets for the evening performance are just $33 for adults and $15 for students and may be purchased by calling 715.424.2787 or stopping by 1040 8th Street South, Suite 101, Wisconsin Rapids, Monday through Thursday from 10:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Tickets are also available 24/7 at https://www.SavorTheArts.com. There are no hidden fees—just sales tax is applied.
Thank you to Mead Witter Foundation for sponsoring both the master class opportunity and the evening concert, and to WSAW Channel 7 for being a season sponsor.
